After ADA, Dr. Hashemian crossed the river to Virginia to attend the 7th Annual mHealth Summit, which is now part of the HIMSS Connected Health Conference and emphasized innovation and the power it holds to engage and connect – anytime, anywhere. At the summit, ASDOH had the only dental booth. ASDOH’s innovative applications include Text2Floss, Ph2OH and GenieMD Oral Health.

Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ASDOH) Associate Dean for Global Oral Health and Text2Floss founder, Dr. Tony Hashemian, introduced Text2Floss to partners of the Early Smiles program in San Bernardino County. The Center for Oral Health hosted a day-long training for their partners as part of the launch of the initiative. The collaboration between the Center for Oral Health Action Coalition of the Inland Empire (OHAC-IE) and A. T. Still University’s ASDOH, will make Text2Floss oral health education messages available to providers and consumers throughout the Inland Empire as part of the Early Smiles Program.
Text2Floss uses a series of text messages to reach, educate and remind participants about oral health habits that promote better oral health. “Text messaging represents a viable method to improve oral health behaviors and knowledge,” says Dr. Tony Hashemian, and an evaluation of Text2Floss has shown it.
This innovative health promotion tool will be available later this summer. “The introduction of Text2Floss into the Early Smiles Program will help increase the access to dental care by educating the program participants about the importance of good oral health and its relation to whole person health care,” states Dr. Jack Dillenberg, Dean of ASDOH. It will be available to local dental providers and Early Smiles partners at no cost to them.
